The Iowa Numismatic Association

1985-67-249-obv-width350Since its founding in 1938, the INA has promoted the hobby of numismatics through education and our support of Iowa coin clubs, and the numerous conventions and shows held throughout the state.

Each year the INA sponsors an annual coin show and convention. These conventions host a great variety of dealers from throughout the state and the region. Many of the conventions have free educational seminars and activities for young collectors.

While the achievements of the INA over the years have been great, the outstanding achievement has been sponsoring and getting passed legislation to repeal the sales tax on coins, currncy and precious metals. It took 7 years and a tremendous amount of work to get this legislation passed.

For decades, the industry had been stymied with consumers buying out of state and through the internet. Incredible amounts of money was spent through these channels by consumers striving to get the best deal possible and save the sales tax $. This was especially evident on bullion sales. Coin shows and dealers statewide were struggling to stay afloat.

Since the passage of the sales tax bill, attendance at coin shows and business at coin shops showed dramatic increases. The number of shops in Iowa increased and many stores increased employment significantly.

So, I invite you to support the INA by being a member. The cost is just $10 for adults and $2 for those under 18 and under. Benefits include:

  • 3 issues per year of the Collector which is one of the premier state publications in the country.
  • A state of the art website that details INA services, officer contacts a coin show calendar and more.  Check out the web site at ina.anaclubs.org
  • Annual INA show and convention which includes free admission and many free seminars.
