1923 $5 Silver Certificate – Porthole Note.

Silver Certificates are an extensive series and offer many varieties of design and subject matter. There are five different issues of silver certificates that came out in different denominations and years, this particular note was in the fifth issue that did all 1923 series notes in $1 and $5 denominations. They call this note the ‘Porthole’ because of the circular design around Lincoln’s head. The portrait is of Abraham Lincoln after the Matthew Brady photograph of February 9, 1864. This note has been graded by PMG as an MS64 and is valued at $4500.
